Kids having a ball volunteering at the World Beach Volleyball Championships

The legacy of the FIVB World Beach Volleyball Championships will live long after the last point was won on the Adelaide sand. 

While the elite players strived for glory, competing for every point with incredible athleticism and determination, their every move was also inspiring the next generation. 

We caught up with some of the volunteer ball kids to find out about their experience at the global event. 

Meet Jesse…

Q: What was your role at the Championships?
A: I am helping volunteer as a ball kid.

Q: How has your experience been?
A: Great. I have been able to watch games firsthand and see players I had never ever assumed I would ever get to watch. The level is insane, I am loving it.

Q: What has been your favourite moment?
A: Probably – the atmosphere. I watched Germany vs Argentina. Argentina won the first set and Germany won the second Set 31-29. Germany won the final set 23-21 and it was a crazy comeback. The atmosphere was crazy, everyone was getting around it. I was raking that game and it was insane to watch and be part of it.

Q: Why should someone volunteer for World Champs?
A: It lets you meet all the best players in the world. It is insane to be so close to the court and shake their hands and talk to them. Great atmosphere being part of the community, Best of all is getting time out of school – it was a great deal for me!

Q: How does it feel volunteering for such a massive event in Australia?
A: It’s pretty good, I like it and it’s pretty fun. You get to meet the players which is pretty amazing.Q: Where are you from? 
A: Brisbane, Queensland.

Q: What’s been your favourite moment?
A: Meeting Izac (Carracher) and Mark (Nicolaidis), they’re the Australian beach pair, it was so cool to be able to see them up close.

Q: How did you hear about this event?
A: From our school, we do a volleyball program. Our teacher is an ex Olympian so she obviously likes beach volleyball and she signed up for us.

Q:Have you had fun and would you do it again?
A: Yes, absolutely.
