Hulu has renewed Only Murders in the Building for a fourth season. The news comes on the same day as Hulu’s release of the season 3 finale.
The series follows Charles Haden-Savage (Steve Martin), Oliver Putnam (Martin Short) and Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez), three neighbors in a New York City apartment called Arconia who came together in Season 1 to record a true crime podcast about the murder of his roommate Tim Kono (Julian Cihi). In Season 2, they investigated the murder of Bunny Folger (Jayne Houdyshell), the apartment’s CEO. In Season 3, they search for the murderer of Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd), a famous actor who dies in Oliver’s play on the opening night of his Broadway debut. Meryl Streep plays actress Loretta Durkin.
Steve Martin and John Hoffman serve as co-creators of Only Murders in the Building and serve as executive producers alongside Short, Gomez, Dan Fogelman and Jess Rosenthal. The series comes from 20th Television.
Only Murders in the Building is Hulu’s most-watched original comedy series to date, and its third season had the most-watched premiere day of any Hulu-written original in 2023. According to Nielsen’s weekly streaming rankings, the series ranked as the 9th most-watched title of the week and the No. 3 streaming original series following the launch of its third season. In the weeks that followed, it continued to be among the top 6 streaming originals.
Of the third season’s themes, Hoffman told Variety, “All the fears and all the comic pressures are there to illustrate what we all understand and can relate to when you want something so badly.” Man feels like, “This is what I’m supposed to do.” How far would you go? That’s the question right at the start of the season: How far would you go to keep the title?”
