Volleyball Australia Launches Participation Plan

Volleyball Australia has released its Participation Plan, outlining a national strategy to grow and strengthen the sport across every state and territory.

Anchored in the organisation’s Play Together 2025–2028 strategic framework, the Participation Plan focuses on the Sport Community pillar – connecting more Australians with volleyball through accessible, inclusive and flexible programming.

The Participation Plan is structured around four pillars: People, Places, Play and Promotion. Together, these pillars address the full participant journey, from a child picking up a volleyball for the first time, through to coaching, officiating and lifelong community involvement.

Key initiatives include the national rollout of PlayVolley into Sporting Schools and clubs, the development of Adaptive Volley pathways from grassroots to performance, the introduction of a Social Volley program for casual participants, and a refreshed national education framework for coaches, referees and volunteers.

Volleyball Australia currently boasts more than 82,700 members nationally with the view to grow that target to more than 198,800 participants across playing members, coaches, referees, recreational participants and Sporting Schools.

Volleyball Australia’s General Manager of Growth and Development, Dr Caitlin Honey, said the Participation Plan reflects the organisation’s commitment to making volleyball genuinely welcoming for all Australians.

“This plan gives us a framework to turn our values into programs, places and pathways that genuinely open doors for Australians of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.

“While led nationally by Volleyball Australia, it will be delivered in partnership with State and Territory Member Associations, who will receive dedicated tools, resources and guidance to implement participation initiatives at the local level.

“We want to create real opportunities and pathways for first time players through to those that might be returning to the sport, as well as for those groups such as coaches, referees and volunteers that are the backbone of the sport,” she said.

The Plan also aligns with the national Play Well strategy with a roadmap through to 2029 sets out year-by-year milestones across all four pillars, with federated digital infrastructure, annual national conferences and a fully integrated participation journey targeted by the end of the decade.

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.

In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.

The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
