Monia Chokri’s film “Simple comme Sylvain” reaches first place at the box office in Quebec

The romantic comedy Just like Sylvaina new film by actress and director Monia Chokri, debuted at number one at the box office in its first week in theaters in Quebec.

The feature film, starring Magalie Lépine-Blondeau and Pierre-Yves Cardinal, which opened on more than sixty screens across the province last Friday, was the most popular film of the week in cinemas in the province, thanks to grossing more than $250,000, according to the office.

“It’s exciting to see Quebec audiences make Simple Like Sylvain the most popular film of the week,” said distributor Immina Films president Patrick Roy in a press release.

Simple as Sylvain, which had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival last May, tells a love story between a 40-year-old philosophy professor (Magalie Lépine-Blondeau) and a building contractor from the Laurentians (Pierre-Yves Cardinal). The film will also be released in France later this fall.
