Sofia Coppola is back with “Priscilla”, a film about the Presley couple, who are already establishing themselves as the anti-Elvis of Baz Luhrmann.
Almost ten years after his Gatsby the GreatBaz Luhrmann, the director of Romeo + Juliet and from red mill finally came back to cinemas in 2022 with the fabulous Elvis. The film turned around the life of Elvis Presley, played by Austin Butlerand his relationship with his manager, played by Tom Hanks, did not have the same box office success as Bohemian Rhapsody certainly, but it has had very good returns and eight nominations for the 2023 Oscars.
Supporting character in Baz Luhrmann’s film, Priscilla Presley will be the focus of Sofia Coppola’s new film. It is not uncommon for two films with a similar theme to be released almost simultaneously (Snow White And Snow White and the Huntsman in 2012 the films Saint Laurent And Yves Saint Laurent), but here the point of view will be completely different. In fact, the biopic about Priscilla will be “the opposite” of Baz Lurhmann’s film, as we can see from the trailer.
The Priscilla-Elvis couple
Unlike Baz Luhrmann, Sofia Coppola didn’t want to show the glitz, showbiz and all the exuberance that revolves around Elvis Presley, or yes, but differently, through the eyes of Priscilla, who was only 14 years old when she met her future husband. To tell the story of the King’s wife, Sofia Coppola directly adapted “Elvis & Me”, a book written by Priscilla Presley and published in 1985, in which she recounts the years of her marriage to Elvis.
In new images from the film revealed by Entertainment Weekly, we discover the Priscilla-Elvis duo, played by actors Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi. Known for his appearances in the series euphoria and the films The Kissing BoothJacob Elordi should interpret an Elvis differently than the one we are used to, another side of the king, darker. Cailee Spaeny, who is less well known than her playing partner, starred in the series developer And Easttown mare.
