TV legend ‘joins the cast of Coronation Street’… and you may know him from the popular Channel 4 sitcom

A TV legend you may know from the classic sitcom Desmond’s has reportedly joined the cast of Coronation Street.

Legendary star Ram John Holder, 89, has secured a role on the cobbles and has already started filming his scenes in Manchester.

The actor, best known for his role as Pork Pie on the sitcom, will play Ed Bailey’s father Sarge (Trevor Michael Georges).

According to The Sun, a TV insider said: “Ram has already filmed his scenes in Weatherfield, although viewers won’t see them for another few months.”

“It’s an important role for him, but it will go without saying that he is an experienced star in several dramas – including soaps.”

Ram has starred in EastEnders, Emmerdale, Doctors, Casualty, The Bill and Heartbeat.

The star, whose real name on Desmond’s Augustus Neapolitan was Cleveland Grant, appeared on the legendary show in 1989 but was nicknamed “Pork Pie” because he always wore a hat.

This comes after viewers were left in tears following the dramatic “end of an era” in Wednesday night’s episode on Corrie.

Earlier this week, Rover Return closed for extensive renovations, with all staff having their contracts terminated with immediate effect.

However, the pub was closed during tonight’s show, shocking fans and bringing some to tears.

“Goodbye to the Rovers as we know them,” along with a broken heart.

Fans took to the comments section, with some describing the closure as “heartbreaking” and others calling the pub a “landmark”.

One person said: “Why mess with perfection? The Rovers are Rovers! A Weatherfield landmark!’

Another wrote: “Too heartbreaking.”

“The road wouldn’t be the same without the return of the rovers.” “It’s the heart and soul of the road,” said a third.
